The LGBT+ Community Is Not Marginalized. Let's Stop Pretending They Are.
We repeatedly hear members of the LGBTQ+ community are marginalized. If you aren’t paying attention, you really would believe the LGBT+ are living on the fringes of society. I’m hard-pressed to find a place in the United States that isn’t welcoming the LGBT+ community with open arms. It seems most institutions and organizations are tripping over themselves to show their support for this community. Even certain Churches in America have dawned LGBT+ flags to show their solidarity and just recently we learned of a “Church” in South Carolina featuring a drag performance.
You then have support coming from the mainstream media, big tech, Hollywood, celebrities, and even the office of the President of the United States, which by the way, is the most powerful office in the entire world. In addition, the LGBT+ flag is proudly hoisted in our embassies throughout the world. I don’t know about you, but I have never seen a marginalized group able to fly their flags not only in our own country but throughout the world. Flying flags usually symbolize that force having claimed a territory. What does that tell you when the LGBT flag is being flown right under the American flag? Seems ironic, doesn’t it?
We are gearing up to dedicate all of June to PRIDE month. A celebration of all the various LGBT+ lifestyles. Every corporation in America will be adorning their logos with rainbow colors, social media feeds will be full of people wearing rainbow-colored clothing and updating their profile pictures with LGBT+ banners, and the White House will have a rainbow array of lights lit on the front of the building and there will be parades in the streets of every major city in America with thousands of people celebrating their lifestyle. We will see commercial after commercial of companies sharing LGTB+ stories to exploi— show their solidarity with the community. We should also expect to see Public Schools integrate LGTB+ doctrine into their curriculums during Pride month; that is if they aren’t already doing it.
That brings me back to this question, is the LGBT+ community really marginalized?
Let’s define the word according to Merriam-Webster:
Marginalize: to relegate to an unimportant or powerless position within a society or group.
Now, I want you to ask yourself if the LGTB+ Community is relegated to being unimportant? Especially in light of the support they have not just nationally, but internationally. If anything, LGTB+ support is a part of the Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) goals of every major corporation in America. Among the top 3 Fortune 500 companies, all 3 companies (Walmart, Amazon & Apple) have aspects of LGTBT+ support enmeshed in their goals. Walmart showcases an LGBT+ story in its news section. Part of Amazon’s commitment to DEI is something called GLAMAZON. I’ll just let you read for yourself the stated goal of Glamazon:
Under Apple’s value section at the very bottom of their main page, they link to their Inclusion & Diversity page. On that page, you will find several write up’s regarding their commitment to LGBT+ support. In one a write-up titled Rose champions
conversations about identity. We learn about Rose Ghahary, who makes it a point to feature her “preferred pronouns” in her bio, and share about how she is an active member of pride@apple and is leading DEI training, helping program for “International Transgender Day of Visibility” and serves on various leadership panels. Is this something a truly marginalized group is able to do?
This is just the top 3 of the Fortune 500 companies listed. I am confident if you go through the rest, you will find explicit support for the LGTB+ Community in their “About” sections. It’s clear the LGBT+ Community isn’t seen as unimportant in these companies, but their voice is paramount to the companies’ stated goals.
What about power? Does the LGBT+ Community lack power? As stated earlier, the LGBT+ Community has support from the President of The United States, which is the most powerful office in the world. They also have a long list of holidays/awareness days. You can find a comprehensive list here but let’s list a few:
March 31 | International Transgender Day of Visibility
April 26 | Lesbian Visibility Day
May 17 | International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia
May 24 | Pansexual and Panromantic Visibility Day
ALL OF JUNE
July 14 | International Non-Binary People’s Day
Last week in September | Ally Week (Oh look! A whole week in September.)
October 11 | National Coming Out Day
October 19 | Spirit Day; LGBT Center Awareness Day
November 20 | International Transgender Day of Remembrance
December 8 | Pansexual/Panromantic Pride Day
After reviewing the holidays and reflecting on the amount of support this community has, it solidified this is not typical of people who live on the fringes. There have never been marginalized communities who have companies as large as Disney bend to their every whim. Disney recently vowed to further their commitment to the LGTB+ Community by fighting Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay Bill” which is really called “The Parental Rights In Education Bill”. The irony of it all is that it doesn’t prohibit the use of the word “gay”. Read it for yourself. But it was this lie and the power of the LGTB+ mob that brought Disney to its knees. Even though the majority of parents support the bill when they come to understand the bill is not about preventing teachers from saying “gay” but to protect children from being taught gender theory and sexuality.
It’s clear the LGBT+ Community not only has power, but they wield their power to influence the culture and every fabric of society. There has been almost no institution in America that has not had some elements of the LGBT+ agenda infiltrate it. They have the Mainstream Media on their side. They have Hollywood. They have Big Tech and they have the Federal Government. The only places they haven’t fully been captured is The Church and Red States who continue to resist. It is without question they have power and aren’t afraid to use it. They are no longer on the fringes but rather on the front lines advancing their worldview and they show no signs of slowing down.
The LGBT+ Community is not marginalized. Let’s stop pretending they are.
